WebEDIT: I just checked the wiki to see the chances of getting ores and its 1/26 for all of them, so this might work as an option. UPDATE: I got 1700 fossil and after extractinating I got 85 iron. Even though it's not good to get iron I got a lot of other stuff so it's less about quantity and more about variety. WebYou can fill with sand or silt, that's fast. Or you can use a background if you want to leave it open. Either way it will stop mob spawns. I believe spawn is at most about 50-60 blocks away from the player in every direction. You can go farther (maybe to 75 blocks) just to be safe.
