At a guess I'd say 20% or so have now gone across the screen but it still does the job, just about, with the left side sometime cutting out completely. You can lose one or both of these banks it could be a fuse or connection issue. If, however you lose part of one of these banks then that is down to a break an element buried in the windscreen. The switch goes to the UCH which puts the light on and selects the relay, it's also the timer.
